Event summary
In October 2023 Matthew Hawkins presented at the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Practices inaugural gathering, Digital Interdisciplinary Arts Salon (DIAS) at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore.
Matthew introduced an exploratory 3D web space, created using the third party office and conference platform, FrameVR. This alternative space recognised Frame’s multi-purpose potential and the possibility for translating more conventional illustrative approaches into image based digital experiences.
More interestingly, the resulting environment(s) offered up an alternative teaching and learning space challenging orthodox and established academic practices.
Workshop
NAFA students were invited to participate in a condensed version of the drawing workshop – Drawing a 360° Spherical Panorama.
After being provided with a template students created a drawing existing both vertically and horizontally around a centre point or viewer. The resulting image was photographed an uploaded to a third party online platform. The activity enabled students to envisage how more traditional 2D languages can inform the development of immersive experiences and/or performances.
